              SAF-T Digitisation

              Frank Cambie

              Royal B

Increasingly, tax authorities are demanding more details on tax data. Many EMEA countries, for example, are implementing SAF-T to share data at very detailed levels – even the invoice level – in order to give authorities much deeper insights into corporate business operations, transactions, data and processes. Given this trend, it’s vital that companies ensure that all data (transactional and master data) is correct and complete. Join this session to learn more about SAF-T and digitisation as it relates to tax authorities. Presenters will explore the trends, discuss typical challenges and share best practices on how organisations can prepare and respond.

Tax Has a Big Data Problem - How Vertex Enterprise Can Help

              John Cowan

              Stephanie Nowak

              Royal A

Most global indirect tax departments feel they can't trust the accuracy of the transactional data that drives their compliance and other obligations. This certainly isn't due to a lack of diligence on behalf of tax departments to configure business systems and tax software. In fact, root causes are most of the time found to be outside their reach. Challenges range from differences between accounting's validation of transactions and that of tax, bad or missing data, last minute corrections, or simply the high volume of transactions coming from a variety of sources in different formats. Join this session where Vertex experts will discuss and demonstrate how Vertex® Enterprise can provide data transparency and enable you to target and analyse subsets of at-risk transactions - even in high volume situations - to find problems prior to close and filings, and streamline your compliance cycle.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

              • Know how to use Vertex Enterprise to capture, unify, validate and enrich business system data at each month's end
              • Understand the power and ease of use for tax accountants to evaluate the data, at detail level, and look for risk transactions
              • Demonstrate how the data is available for tax professionals to create complex reporting needs via an easy-to-use interface

A New World of VAT in the GCC

              Clare McColl

              Royal A

While the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have developed a draft framework to implement VAT within member states, businesses face real uncertainty as rules and guidelines continue to evolve. Huge numbers of companies in the region will be required to register and comply with the new VAT requirements, and there are far-reaching implications for staff, customers and suppliers. Management will need to take responsibility for understanding their risk profile, embedding the right processes and controls within the business and leveraging technology wherever possible. There is no doubt that there are challenges ahead, but with senior management support, access to good advice and efficient technology, early preparation can result in a well-planned and fully compliant VAT program.

Duracell Poland: Creating a Clean VAT Compliance Process

              Stephanie Nowak

              Danny Vermeiren

              Ola Aleksandra Ruzik

              Royal A

Do you dream of a smooth, standard, automated VAT compliance process that’s executed at the push of a button? Many factors beyond the control of the VAT team can impact this process. And in some countries, VAT compliance is complicated by excessive requirements and scrutiny. For example, in Poland, VAT accountants must invest a great deal of effort validating and formatting data before they can even start thinking about preparing a VAT return or executing the VAT SAF-T compliance. Most Polish returns take many days to put together each month. In this session, we will examine in detail how the Vertex Tax Performance Engine™ is helping Duracell overcome many of these challenges, thus freeing up time and resources in the tax department, standardising the process, and creating an audit trail.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

              • Understand how the Vertex Tax Performance engine works for VAT data management
              • Discuss common VAT challenges faced by Duracell Poland and how they used the Vertex Tax Performance Engine to overcome them
              • See how the Vertex Tax Performance Engine can be leveraged to solve other VAT data management challenges
